IFAC Symposium on Robot Control (SYROCO)

Posted: Jan 16, 2012

Invitation to the Special Session in Adaptive Robotic Ecologies at the
10th International IFAC Symposium on Robot Control, hosted in Dubrovnik, Croatia, on September 5-7, 2012.

Event Info:

Robotic ecologies are networks of heterogeneous robotic devices pervasively embedded in everyday environments, where they cooperate in applications such as security and ambient assisted living.   Robotic ecologies is an emerging paradigm, which crosses the borders between the fields of robotics, sensor networks, and ambient intelligence.  Instances of this paradigm include network robot systems, smart environments, sensor-actuator networks, and ubiquitous robotics, and PEIS Ecology. Common to these systems is the fact that the term "robotic device'' is taken in a broad sense, including mobile robots, static sensors or actuators, and automated home appliances. While the potentials of robotic ecologies makes them increasingly popular, many fundamental research questions remain open.  One such question is how to make a robotic ecology self-adaptive, so as to reduce the amount of preparation and pre-programming required for the deployment in real world applications.  The goal of this special session is to bring together state-of-the-art contributions describing solutions that enable robotic ecologies to be self-learning, self-configuring, and self-adapting. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
